A Day Out with Thomas

Meeting Sir Topham Hat

Mr. Conductor welcoming us to the train.

Jack and I headed to spend a day with Thomas this morning. Thomas was passing through a nearby town this weekend and for a small fee we were able to be his passengers! Jack had a great time and was so excited when we pulled up and there was an life-size Thomas train in front of us. He immediately began to list the other engines he wanted to see (James, Percy, Emily...). But, once he realized it was just Thomas he was fine. It was kind of chilly today but the 25 minute train ride - being pulled by Thomas made it all worthwhile.

Easter

Jack examining his Easter basket.

Getting ready to hunt eggs with Addison, Honor, and Ethan
(Thanks, Nana, for the perfect Easter shirt!)

Jack actually did pretty well at finding the eggs and putting them in his basket.

The Last Hurrah

It's been a nice Spring Break week for us. Nathan has stayed home and played with Jack while I started orientation at my new job. For our last free night together before school starts again, we took Jack to Chuck E. Cheese. It was a first for our family - Nathan and I, of course, had been to this restaurant or the Showbiz Pizza chain when we were younger. It was a madhouse. I don't recommend going on a Saturday night but the wiser parents out there reading this probably already knew this information. Jack enjoyed it, though, and ran from game to game.

Decorating Eggs

(I love how disgusted his face looks in this picture.)

Easter egg decorating went much smoother this year. Jack was really into it - but he didn't understand that you couldn't tap the eggs together or throw them on the tile floor. (In his defense, they were decorated like basket and baseballs.) So, the eggs didn't last long following the decorating.

Happy St.Patrick's Day!

From our little Leprechaun

Going to See the Animals

Jack and the Rhino (in the background)

Watching the giraffes (and Baby Katie - the new giraffe)

Eager to ride this lizard. He was hesitant until he knew it was pretend.

He really loved the flamingoes.

Jack and I headed to the zoo this past Friday. It was a beautiful Texas day...mid 80s and sunny. We had  a great time. My only regret was not taking the stroller since both of us were drained near the end of the trip. We did make it back to the car where Jack fell asleep within minutes of the drive back home. Don't worry...I did not.

Election 2008

Can you tell my husband's obsession with "politics" is rubbing off?

Spinning

One of Jack's new favorite things to do is spin.

Happy Birthday, Papaw!

Things are A Changin'

Okay, I promise...this was him smiling...but it looks like he's in pain.

He's such a thinker. He always gets these serious expressions on his face as he's studying something. It's happened like this since he was a newborn.

Well, it has been a LONG winter. Jack has been sick since early November...ear infection after ear infection, RSV, pneumonia, multiple rounds of pink eye, and the list goes on and on. We had tubes put in his ears in early February. The procedure went smoothly and for about a week he was sleeping and acting beautifully. But, his left ear drainage became too thick and blocked off the tube causing more pain and a bit of temporary hearing loss. This way the final straw for me. My mom instincts kicked in and Nathan and I decided the only way these issues were going to stop was if we pulled him out of daycare. I found a weekend job at a local hospital within a week that will actually pay a significant amount more than my teaching job- and I will only be working 2 nights/week. This leaves all my days free to hang out with Jack... and while I'm working, he'll be safe in Daddy's hands to do boy things (whatever those might be).
While I'm not exactly thrilled about working every weekend or the night shift, it's a small price to pay to be able to spend so much of these important years with Jack and I'm actually kind of embarrassed that I didn't make the switch sooner.
A week has passed since my last day working at the school. It's gone by a lot faster than I expected. Jack and I have been busy visiting the pet store, playing outside and going to the library. Our house is actually somewhat clean and we actually have been eating our meals at home. Jack doesn't have a runny nose (which I was beginning to think was a constant) and his night time cough seems to be dwindling. Yay!

Valentine's Day

Jack loved his Valentine's cards from his friends at school. He would just sit and look at them for hours if I left him alone. The smiley picture (above) was actually taken while he was saying "cheese" to the Diego Valentine card. Now, I have no idea why he won't smile and say cheese to me but he will do it instantly for a picture of his favorite animated character. Weird.
